Surface grinder with φ1000 mm rotary table with vertical spindle axis of grinding segments

The JOTES SAB100W surface grinding machine with a vertical spindle and a rotary table, after general renovation and modernization, works both in a manual and automatic cycle. The grinder is designed for rough and / or finish face grinding of abrasive segments. The high efficiency of the grinding process allows the machine to be used in large-scale production.

Scope of machine modernization:

  • replacement of the vertical screw of the grinding wheel headstock with a driven ball screw through a servo drive reducer,
  • change of the machine control by using the Siemens controller,
  • assembly of a new control panel on the column enabling full control of the machine (instead of the two so far existing ones),
  • replacement of the table rotation drive motor with an inverter motor, which will ensure the ability to control the table rotation from the desktop. It will also eliminate mechanical gears, which will reduce the failure rate of the machine, as in the case of replacing the drive screw of the grinding wheel headstock,
  • modernization of electrical apparatus in terms of new machine control,
  • construction of safe work area shields along with a new design of the hydraulically driven door

The position and speed of the grinding wheel headstock in the vertical axis are supervised by the NC control system. The drive of the grinding wheel headstock is controlled by a soft starter, which significantly reduces the starting current and mechanical impacts of the motor. The control elements are placed on the operator's side of the grinder on the control panel, fixed by an articulated boom to the machine column. Control elements provide basic operation as well as programming and loading a specific technological cycle, which enables, among others, support for specialized functions such as:

  • precise infeed of the grinding wheel headstock,
  • the ability to set the speed of roughing and finishing infeed and setting the time of sparking out,
  • the ability to read the position of the infeed axis.

The details are mounted on the electromagnetic table. The machine is equipped with a demagnetizer, which makes it easier to remove the machined details from the table.
